Made in Brunel

Made in Brunel is a unique, student-led initiative which showcases our Design talent as its finest.

All third-year undergraduate Brunel Design School students have the opportunity to join the Made in Brunel team and can choose which role they would like to take up. The team are allocated a budget, and are responsible for creating an annual theme and organising the annual final year project showcase and lead-up events. This experience will add real experience to your CV when you graduate.

The end of year Made in Brunel graduate show is held at the Oxo Bargehouse on London’s Southbank, and will give you a huge opportunity to show off the completed product you’ve created whilst building connections with the wider creative community and industry professionals who will be in attendance. Visit the student run for information on this year’s projects and creations, and to see when the events are being held.

24 Hour Design Challenge

The annual 24 Hour Design Challenge is a marathon for students to work on live briefs from industry professionals and real companies. Previous years have held host to Chanel, Dyson and Lego. You have the opportunity to take a four hour slot and manage an aspect of the design process, from sketching an idea to creating a 3D mock-up of a product. The challenge gives you a feel for the real-life scenario of understanding a brief, creating a storyboard and working to tight deadlines.

Sketch Off

At the Sketch Off event, students compete in four quick-fire sketching challenges, battling to win the title of Best Sketcher at Brunel. The judging panel is made up of industry experts and Design alumni, giving you the opportunity to showcase your quick thinking and advanced sketching skills.

The Ideas Factory

Taking place in Southbank’s Oxo Tower, The Ideas Factory is a new annual pop-up event open to public. Previous students exhibited some of the work they had done on their course so far, and held model making workshops for visitors.

End of year graduate show

The 2021 Made in Brunel grand finale is held at the Oxo Bargehouse over four days, and exhibited all final year projects from our undergraduate students. The event welcomed industry professionals and inspirational Brunel Design alumni who offered invaluable advice to students and handed out awards for the most creative inventions. Some final year projects are developed in collaboration with external partners, and previous students have gained investment for their products to be sold on the marketplace.

The 2022 Made in Brunel grand finale will take place on 16-19th June 2022.
