Protecting and Landscaping Homes in the Wildland/Urban Interface

SB0067

December 31, 2004

Despite the specter of climate change, housing developments in wildfire-prone communities (areas where houses sit within or directly adjacent to natural vegetation) have steadily increased since 1990. Given that fire is already a natural part of a forest/rangeland ecosystem, Inland West residents should learn what precautions to take for their own protection. This four-color, 24-page booklet describes what you need to know, including understanding wildfire behavior, assessing the ignition potential of your house and land, developing fire-resistive landscapes and emergency evacuation tips. A handy checklist will help you keep tabs on your progress.
