A senior academic from Brunel University London’s Department of Clinical Sciences has been appointed as the prestigious joint co-ordinating editor of Cochrane’s Pain, Palliative and Supportive Care group (PaPaS).
Dr Neil O’Connell, a Senior Lecturer in physiotherapy, will co-lead a Cochrane review group with a focus on evaluating interventions to manage acute and chronic pain, headaches and migraines, palliative care, and supportive care of patients and their families.
Cochrane is a non-profit global collaboration which undertakes systematic reviews of the evidence in healthcare in order to provide accessible, credible information to support informed decision-making. They are internationally recognised as a trusted source of evidence in healthcare

Dr O’Connell is the author of 16 previous Cochrane Reviews, and has worked with PaPaS as an editor since 2015. His research interests focus on the management of persistent pain and he has published extensively in the area.
Dr O’Connell said: “It is a real privilege to have the opportunity to take a leadership role with PaPaS. I am excited to help steer the group and to build on our excellent record as the leaders in providing trusted evidence to guide care in our field.”
