Brunel University London has today been awarded the right to deliver the unique and highly regarded Parliamentary Studies module from the academic year 2024/25.

The module is an in-depth course that provides students with a detailed knowledge of how the UK Parliament works, in both theory and practice, and is the only university course formally approved by and delivered in collaboration with the Houses of Parliament.

Students on politics, history and law degrees can learn about themes such as:

  • the structure of Parliament
  • the legislative process
  • the role of Select Committees
  • the role and work of MPs
  • the role and work of Members of the House of Lords
  • the relationship with the executive
  • Parliament and the public
  • how the UK Parliament interacts with other Parliaments and legislatures.

Brunel is among 23 universities hand-picked for this award, and around 40 students are admitted onto the University's module each year.

Brunel was first given the seal of approval in 2015, and this year's award – the third in succession – runs to the end of the 2029/30 academic year.

"The module really benefits Brunel students," said Professor Justin Fisher, the professor of political science who runs the module at Brunel. "It offers them an opportunity to deepen their knowledge and understanding of one of Britain’s most important political institutions. Previous students have said how much the module helped them to cultivate all important transferable skills that were crucial in their careers.

"I’m delighted that Brunel has again been selected amongst an elite group of universities to offer this module. Since we were first selected in 2015, the module has delivered a superb educational experience for our students."
