Helpful Tips for Empaths

“A sad soul can kill an empath far quicker than death.” -Anonymous

That quote seems dreadful but if you are an empath you will know this to be true. If you are an empath, you’ll have a gut feeling about it. It is not something that is learned, you are just born with it. You pick things up, like feelings, and quite frequently they are not your own. The best description of an empath that I found is by Christel Broederlow.“Empathy is the ability to read and understand people and be in-tune with or resonate with others. Empaths are hypersensitive people and are often compassionate, considerate, and understanding of others. They have the ability to ‘feel’ what someone else is experiencing and feeling.” In my opinion, being an empath means having the ability to put yourself in someone else’s shoes, thinking and feeling their thoughts and emotions, and at times their aches and pains. It is an incredible gift.

I am coming to realize just how much of a hypersensitive soul I am. Hypersensitivity can sometimes have a negative connotation attached. It just means that my emotions are heightened and that my sensitivity to others’ emotions are also heightened. However, being an empath allows me to connect with others in ways that I could have never comprehended before. I read an amazing article by Alayna called, “Dear Empaths, You Are Energy Alchemists” that helped me understand the purpose of empaths. God, Infinite Intelligence, Divine Creator, or whichever name best harmonizes with you, does not create things without a purpose. So what are empaths here to do exactly? Here is a small section of her article:

“Empaths are spiritual warriors, and [energy alchemists]. Empaths are here to transmute and transform the energy they absorb. Empaths do far more than merely absorb. Absorption is only the first step in what we do. Empaths are made to move that which is in negative form, to divine form—to shift that which is dark to light. In other words, we empaths are sort of like the spiritual trees of the human world, purifying the dirty air so that all creatures can go on living and breathing.”

How profound and absolutely incredible is that?

As stated in one of my previous posts, I have had a rough emotional upbringing, which led to my inability to properly cope with my emotions. I have always been instructed as a child to keep my emotions hidden; to stuff them down some sort of imaginary never-ending hole and to keep them there forever. This was hardly the proper foundation I needed to be able to deal with being an empath. If you are like me and have difficulty expressing and releasing emotions, it is so important to learn how to do so.

We live in a time now where it is so important to let go, to surrender so that we can all ascend vibrationally. But as an empath, the work can be twice as hard if you struggle with releasing low vibrational emotions/energies. So learning how to navigate through life with this special yet difficult gift is something everyone definitely needs to do. Lately I have been really focusing on honing and crafting this skill, while protecting myself from energies that aren’t my own, and from becoming too overwhelmed around others. I wanted to offer some advice for those of you like me, who are empathic and need some helpful pointers.

So here are some tools and tips you can utilize that can help restore your balance:

Meditate

Or do anything that will help calm you down and connect with your heart space. When you are able to calm your mind, you can connect with yourself easily.

Ventilate your feelings

Journaling is a pretty good way to express your feelings. You can also release and/ or express your feelings through a creative outlet such as drawing, painting, building, creating, etc. Anything that gets you to really see how you are feeling. Then you will be able to figure out what perpetuated these negative feelings, and if they are your own feelings or not.

Set limits and boundaries

This pertains to any person or situation that consistently drains your energy. Once you have identified the source of emotion and released them, try to limit your exposure to these sources as best you can.  Energy vampires are very real!

Unplug

Go out into nature, be totally unplugged from the rest of the world and get lost in a fully natural environment. Changing scenery helps tremendously for some, it doesn’t have to be in a park, beach or woods etc. This will help reset your energies.

Release negative energies

This can be done physically through movement via exercise, shaking/dancing, singing/shouting.  It can be done verbally by speaking out loud and affirming, and also mentally by your thoughts with intention. Ask the universe to release anything that isn’t yours.

Protection bubble

Envision yourself in a protective bubble – one that negativity cannot pierce through. Utilize a crystal protection grid and, when you do this, ask the universe to release any energies that aren’t yours. Make the intention that no other energy can enter the bubble. Affirm that only your energy is allowed in that bubble.

Find ways to laugh and feel joy

Surround yourself with things and people who cheer you up. If it is people, make sure they aren’t draining you and that they have genuinely good intentions for you. This changes your Chi, your life force energy.

Spend time with pets

Does this one really need an explanation? Pets help elevate your mood because they have pure, divine energy.

Spend time alone

We all have periods where we want to be alone. Empaths may need additional time in solitude to bounce back to their normal vibration. Once you have identified what you are feeling, why you are feeling it, and have released those feelings, feel free to immerse yourself back into society as normal.

Be patient and gentle with yourself

It is so important to love and nurture yourself. Many people don’t know what to do with their own feelings, let alone those of others. So just be gentle with yourself and accepting of all that you are feeling. You can and will learn how to transmute negative energies in due time!

I hope these recommendations help those who utilize them. Is it so so important to take care of yourself.

Lots of love,

Bella
