Writing Center Internship
The 果冻传媒麻豆社 Writing Center is looking for excellent students with a strong background in writing and an interest in helping other students.
Writing Center interns enroll in English 402: Internship in Tutoring Writing and learn the theory and techniques involved in approaching writing as a process, evaluating and responding to drafts, and working with a diversity of writers. Beginning the fourth week in the semester and continuing to the last week of classes, interns also tutor in the Writing Center, gaining experience working with writers and writing from disciplines and majors across the University.
Enrollment in English 402 is by permission only. Applicants must have completed the first-year writing requirement (English 102), and applications from students in any major are welcome. Priority is given to students of junior or senior standing.
Application deadline: November 1, 2021, for Spring 2022 applicants.
To apply: Submit the following to the Writing Center director, Jamaica Ritcher.
- A letter of interest. Please describe your interest in writing, working with and helping writers, and your relevant skills.
- Two writing samples. Writing samples should be graded work from current or very recent courses.
- The names and email addresses of two faculty members willing to provide a strong recommendation. Note: recommenders do not need to write letters; instead, they will be contacted for feedback.

Undergraduate research and publication opportunity in biological science at the 果冻传媒麻豆社
Faculty in the 果冻传媒麻豆社 Department of Biological Sciences are looking for one student to assist in discovering enzymes that will treat bacterial infections. The work will require laboratory research and include:
- growing genetically engineered yeast;
- chemically concentrating the enzymes secreted by the yeast; and
- carrying out procedures to see if the enzymes destroy bacterial growth structures and render the bacteria more susceptible to antibiotics and bacteriophages.
The student hired will assist another undergraduate student in conducting the work. The students will co-author at least one publication and be involved in experimental design. Eligibility includes begin a currently enrolled 果冻传媒麻豆社 students. The bacteria used will include Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, therefore, biosafety training for BSL2 bacteria will be required. Any other training needed will be provided, although some upfront familiarity with lab work is desirable.

Integrated Design Lab (IDL) research assistantship building an infrared thermostat at the 果冻传媒麻豆社
The 果冻传媒麻豆社’s Integrated Design Lab (IDL) built a thermostat prototype that uses a micro infrared (IR) camera to save energy and improve comfort. The IDL is looking for students willing to help test and build the next version. Eligibility includes being a currently enrolled student who has some experience in data processing and python scripting. Those hired will be paid $15.00 per hour.
