Philosophy Minors

Bioethics Minor

Bioethics addresses moral, social and political issues in the life sciences, including (but not limited to) health sciences. The bioethics minor prepares students for difficult decision-making both as potential producers and consumers of science and medicine. .

Coursework includes training in basic and more advanced ethics, science and the structure of scientific research and theory, including the appropriate role of values in science.

Philosophy Minor

Philosophy is the attempt to understand the world and one’s place in it in the most fundamental terms. Students of philosophy study how we reason about and know about the world, how it is best to act in the world, and who we are within this world we share. The philosophy minor is designed to help students develop their skills at critical thinking and self-reflection while examining these matters. .

Philosophy, Politics, and Economics Minor

There are few institutions more powerful in the present day than money and the law. Governments create money, and so create economies; economic activity has a life of its own and affects the decisions of governments. Philosophers have investigated how best to organize these institutions since Plato in The Republic. Questions about the intersection of philosophy, politics and economics are as live today as they were in Plato’s time, and students pursuing the PPE minor will have the opportunity to study them in an interdisciplinary setting. .
