Advising

Students in the Natural Resource Conservation degree benefit from the advice and expertise of both professional advisors and faculty mentors throughout their college careers. Students are ultimately responsible for their education and decision making, and must be prepared to take responsibility in their academic choices. Along the way our supportive approach to advising will help students navigate their academic progress and embark on a meaningful career.

Professional advisors and faculty mentors support students in two different roles:

Professional advisors work with all incoming students (traditional and transfer) throughout the length of their program. Professional advisors assist students with the following responsibilities:

  • Developing four-year academic plans
  • Class scheduling assistance
  • Evaluation of transfer credits
  • Counseling for better understanding of degree requirements
  • Approval and processing of academic forms and documents such as class waivers, change of major, etc.
  • Graduation related information
  • Career development
  • University resource information

Faculty mentors are natural resource conservation experts who can offer valuable insight and advice in this exciting field. Faculty mentors help students in the following areas:

  • Provide specific expertise in the student's area of interest
  • Connection to internship and research opportunities
  • Suggestions for specialization courses
  • "Big picture" discussions regarding career goals and opportunities
  • Graduate school guidance
  • Providing advice to keep students on track to fulfilling degree requirements for graduation in their particular major
