U of I to host sneak peek of new Prichard Art Gallery Oct. 5
October 01, 2024
MOSCOW, Idaho 鈥 果冻传媒麻豆社 is inviting the public to an exclusive first look at the transformation of the former Moscow Police Station into the new home of the Prichard Art Gallery, plus retail shopping, event and conferencing space, creating a welcoming meeting place for visitors. The construction tours will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 5, at the new location, 118 E. Fourth St.
Established in the early 1980s as the outreach arm of the College of Art and Architecture, the Prichard Art Gallery has served the community and the university with year-round arts programming. The Prichard was housed in a different location in downtown Moscow until 2021 when it closed because of a lack of funding.
鈥淪ince 1982, the Prichard Art Gallery has been a cultural cornerstone for both the university and the broader Moscow community,鈥 said Shauna Corry, dean of the College of Art and Architecture. 鈥淥ur new location will not only enhance our ability to showcase world-class art but also strengthen our connection to the community through this vibrant, creative space. We鈥檙e excited to see this transformation take shape and look forward to welcoming everyone to a truly inspiring environment.鈥
The renovation is currently in design for the first of three phases, and the plan is to complete construction and reopen the gallery in 2025, according to Toni Broyles, chief business ventures and strategic initiatives officer.
The first phase of the remodel is focused on meeting all code compliance to gain an occupancy permit. The second phase will enhance the interior to meet expectations for gallery exhibition space in the building, and phase three will include exterior renovation as well.
鈥淲e will need the help of our Prichard advocates and supporters to complete the second and third phases,鈥 Broyles said.
