Annual Program Review (APR) for Academic Programs
The U of I revised its program review process from an external program review process, to an annual program review process. Following a pilot period, our campus engaged all programs in our new annual program review process for 2021-22.
APR Reports
Each unit produces a self-study that is reviewed by their college, as part of the college’s review. Data collected from this process is also analyzed by the institution. Reports are available here.
Access
APR reports are created in by both units and colleges. All users login with their regular 果冻传媒麻豆社 Single Sign-On credentials.
Permissions
By default, department chairs have access to edit their program’s APR template, and college deans and associate deans have access to all APR’s within their college. To request access for others, complete this .

1. The Self Study Process
Every unit and/or department participates in Annual Program Review (APR). The first step is completing the APR self-study report in . This is the responsibility of the department chair or program head, with help from the program鈥檚 faculty and staff. The Self-Study Report is crafted from a collection of templates and has six guiding parts:
This template asks for your unit鈥檚 mission statement. The program鈥檚 mission statement defines its broad educational purposes and its commitment to student learning and success.
Number of Templates: One
Organizational Level: Department or Administrative Unit
This template asks for your unit’s goals, metrics, and plans. The program sets meaningful goals and indicators of its goals to ensure it fulfills its mission (identified in Part 1), and U of I’s mission.
Number of Templates: Three (minimum)
Organizational Level: Department or Administrative Unit
This template asks for an annual report on the program learning outcomes assessment for each “program of study.” A “program of study” is also known as a major, degree, and/or certificate. Programs offer degrees and majors that are consistent with its mission and lead to clearly defined program-level student learning outcomes — consistent with recognized field of study for the degree level, prepare graduates for their intended path, and include designators aligned with the profession or a common framework.

This template asks for a report on the department or unit’s indicators of student achievement: student retention, persistence, completion, postgraduate success, and equity gaps. Units are asked to describe how these indicators are monitored and how this data is used to promote an effective learning environment.

This template asks questions around internal and external demand for the unit’s research, degrees and majors, as well as trends and patterns in demand.

This template asks two questions: one about the financial health of the program, and the other about how the program ensures efficient use of resources.

2. College Feedback Process
Each college participates in annual program review (APR). The second step of the APR process is completed by the College in . The college has the responsibility to review each APR self-study and give feedback, with help from the college’s faculty and staff. The College Report is crafted from a collection of templates and has four parts:
This template asks for your college’s mission statement. The college’s missions statement defines its broad educational purpose and its commitment to student learning and success.

This template asks for your college’s goals and metrics. It also asks you to identify which department or unit goals, in the college, support each of the college’s goals. The college sets meaningful goals and indicators of its goals to ensure it fulfills its mission (identified in Part 1), and U of I’s mission.
Number of Templates in Report: Minimum of 3
The template asks for a college feedback report on each of the college’s unit/department self-study reports. This section of the report will take the most time to complete, as it requires the reviewers to read each self-study report, evaluate it and make provide feedback.
This part of the report can be completed by teams or workgroups. The college has the flexibility to select who will be involved in the review process for each self-study. Please note the following guidelines:
- The team assigned to review a self-study should not be led by the unit or department’s own chair, lead or head. However, a unit or department-level administrator can lead a review team for another unit.
- The recommendations provided by the review team to the unit or department should be reviewed and approved by college leadership.
Number of Templates in Report: 1 template for every department or unit in the college
The template asks the college to list 3-5 strategic recommendations that are reviewed at the institutional level. These recommendations should support the college’s mission and goals and/or unit/department goals that are important to the college. This template should be completed last, when all individual unit or department self-studies have been reviewed.

3. Institutional Feedback Process
The Provost’s Office, or designee, reviews each College report in . The Provost’s Office reviews these reports for college-level assessment of its program goals and achievement. Additionally, college recommendations are reviewed for alignment with mission fulfillment initiatives. University-wide recommendations for support, change, or action in support of mission fulfillment are made. The Institutional Report is crafted from a collection of templates and has three parts.
