The Martin Institute presents: "The War in Ukraine: A View from an Ally," featuring Ulrich Reineke, Rear Admiral and Director of Plans and Policy of the German Navy.

This Martin Forum address is part of Reineke’s weeklong visit at U of I, during which he will also teach a short course on NATO and visit with students, including those in the Navy ROTC program and international politics courses.
“We are excited to welcome Rear Admiral Reineke back to the Palouse and to tap into his vast knowledge and experience as we reflect on the upcoming second anniversary of the Russo-Ukrainian War,” said Bill Smith, director of the Martin Institute.
As the director of plans and policy in the navy of the Federal Republic of Germany, Reineke’s expertise extends to international diplomacy. His service stations have included the NATO Joint Command in Naples, Italy, as well as positions in the U.N. Interim Force in Lebanon, Germany’s Joint Capabilities program and NATO headquarters in Brussels, Belgium.
A Rear Admiral in the Germany Navy and experienced practitioner of international relations, Ulrich Reineke is currently the Director of Plans and Policy at the German Navy Headquarters.
He has served as the Branch Head for Strategic Defence Planning and Concepts in Maritime and Joint Support under the Director-General for Planning in Germany’s , and as the Head of the Knowledge Support Section with NATO Joint Command in Naples, Italy.
Reineke has also served in the maritime operations UN Interim Force in Lebanon, Germany’s Joint Capabilities program, and at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. He received a Master's of Science as an International Fellow at the National War College and National Defense University in Washington, D.C.
