The Journey to Becoming a Teacher

MEET WITH YOUR ADVISOR EACH SEMESTER

  • Make sure you know how to read your Degree Audit and plan
  • Make sure you know where to find the UI Schedule of Classes; there is often important info about specifics to a particular class section--easy to miss if you don’t check for it (fees, practicum issues, etc.)
  • Create a plan with your advisor and check it against this sheet for your timeline

WHEN YOU TAKE YOUR FIRST CLASS IN TEACHER EDUCATION

  • With the first class you take in the teacher ed. program (usually EDCI 201, but possibly EDCI 301 or EDSP300), you are expected to complete the Protecting Minors Video Training, including completed forms listed below. This is required so you can participate in service learning, practicum, and internship experiences. All these forms are in the video training packet linked in your class syllabus or available via email.
    • Complete the video training. Watching four short videos is required.
    • Turn in completed and signed Criminal Background Disclosure form
    • Turn in completed and signed Code of Behavior form
    • For inquiries about the process, contact edbackground@uidaho.edu
