  • Interactions between heavy metals and microorganisms
  • Effect of metal speciation on toxicity and bioavailability in bacteria

James Moberly's graduate work concentrated on interactions between heavy metals and microorganisms and examined the effect of metal speciation on toxicity and bioavailability in bacteria. Moberly joined Oak Ridge National Laboratory as a post-doctorate in the biosciences division where he worked under two interdisciplinary programs: the Mercury Science Focus Area (SFA) to study mercury bio-transformations and Ecosystems and Networks Integrated with Genes and Molecular Assemblies (ENGIMA) SFA to develop a systems-level understanding of complex microbial communities. Afterward, he followed as an environmental consultant performing contaminated site characterization, remediation, and treatability testing.
