MOSCOW, Idaho 鈥 Ulrich Reineke, acclaimed rear admiral of the German navy, will speak at a free presentation 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, in the Bruce M. Pitman Center Vandal Ballroom on the 果冻传媒麻豆社鈥檚 campus in Moscow.聽聽

This Martin Forum address, 鈥淭he War in Ukraine: A View From an Ally,鈥 is part of Reineke鈥檚 weeklong visit at U聽of聽I, during which he will also teach a short course on NATO and visit with students, including those in the Navy ROTC program and international politics courses.

鈥淲e are excited to welcome Rear Admiral Reineke back to the Palouse and to tap into his vast knowledge and experience as we reflect on the upcoming second anniversary of the Russo-Ukrainian War,鈥 said Bill Smith, director of the Martin Institute.聽

As the director of plans and policy in the navy of the Federal Republic of Germany, Reineke鈥檚 expertise extends to international diplomacy. His service stations have included the NATO Joint Command in Naples, Italy, as well as positions in the U.N. Interim Force in Lebanon, Germany鈥檚 Joint Capabilities program and NATO headquarters in Brussels, Belgium.

Martin Forum speakers deliver a public lecture, visit classes and meet with campus and community audiences in informal settings. These have covered a wide range of issues, including war and peace, human rights and socioeconomics, as well as resources and development. Previous forums have included 鈥淭he U.S. and India: New Challenges and Opportunities,鈥 with former U.S. Ambassador to India, Nepal and Pakistan, Nancy Powell; and 鈥淭he Meaning of Afghanistan,鈥 featuring Ryan C. Crocker, former U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan and Iraq.聽
