Current and Transfer Student Application Process

The 2025-2026 Housing Application Process provides an opportunity for both current and transfer students to apply for housing for the upcoming academic year. This process is designed to help students explore their on-campus living options effectively.

¹û¶³´«Ã½Â鶹Éç has a live-on requirement for first-year (freshman) students. In collaboration with the university, Housing and Residence Life guarantees on-campus housing for all first-year students. However, it’s important to note that non-first-year (returning and transfer) students are not guaranteed housing due to limited bed spaces. Each year the number of applicants exceeds the available bed spaces, requiring Housing and Residence Life to implement a waitlist system. Therefore, we strongly encourage non-first-year students to consider alternative housing options to ensure they have a place to live during the academic year.

We offer two types of room selection through the housing application process.

General Room Selection is when an applicant selects any of the available rooms for the upcoming term that they are eligible for.

Open Room Selection is after General Room Selection has ended. Open Room Selection is available to any current or transfer student who does not have a room assignment so they may select from the remaining spaces available. At this time students with a room assignment can also complete a room swap if they decide they are interested in a different available room. If there are no available rooms, you may add yourself to the waitlist.

We appreciate your interest in living with Housing and Residence Life at ¹û¶³´«Ã½Â鶹Éç! If you have any questions about the current and transfer student housing application process, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at housing@uidaho.edu.

Below, you’ll find a list of important dates and information to guide you in completing your residence hall application. We’re here to support you every step of the way and look forward to assisting you as you navigate the housing process for the 2025-2026 academic year.

2025-26 Current and Transfer Student Housing Application Process

Starting December 17, the 2025-2026 Residence Hall Housing Application will open for current residents, transfer students and any student who is not a First-Time Freshman. Applicants can update personal information, emergency contacts and complete their profile to find a roommate.

Roommate Groups:

With roommate groups, it is now even easier to place your friends in the room with you. A roommate group is a feature that allows you to create a group of roommates before selecting a room. By creating your group in advance, you can keep track of who is in your group and ensure that everyone is together on the day the room is selected. ¹û¶³´«Ã½Â鶹Éç the Roommate Group Page for more details.

Applicants who complete their housing application by 11:59 p.m. (Pacific Time) on Monday, February 3 will have the first opportunity to select their room.

Individually assigned room selection timeslots will be utilized for the 2025-2026 Housing Application process. Following the application deadline, applicants will be notified of their assigned timeslots through their Vandal email.

Beginning at the start of the assigned timeslots, applicants can use the Housing Portal to choose an available room for the 2025-2026 academic year. Students will only be able to view available spaces during or after their individually assigned timeslot. If a student logs into their housing application before their assigned timeslot, they will be redirected to log out of the Housing Portal and to return during their timeslot.

From Tuesday, February 11 to Friday, February 14, applicants can participate in the General Room Selection process. General Room Selection timeslots will be assigned randomly, without consideration of the date of completion of phase one.

The following communities will not be available for selection:

  • All 1st Year housing communities
  • All spaces designed for ADA accommodations

Starting on February 19, any current or transfer student who has completed a 2025-2026 Residence Hall Housing Application may select their room from any remaining available spaces. If there are no spaces available, the applicant may place themselves on the waitlist.

Room Self-Selection will close June 1, or sooner if all available spaces are filled. When all available spaces are filled, Housing and Residence Life will open a waitlist and applicants on the waitlist will be assigned a room by Housing and Residence Life if a space becomes available. Housing and Residence Life will accommodate student preference, if possible, but it is not guaranteed.

Students who decide to cancel their housing application or housing assignment must do so by July 1. If a student cancels their housing application or room assignment after July 1, they will receive a $350 cancelation fee. Any student who cancels their room assignment after picking up their room key will be subject to all fees outlined in the Residence Hall and Dining Services License Agreement and Residence Hall Handbook.
