About the School of Health and Medical Professions
Vandal medicine fosters an environment where innovative ideas, and practical and theoretical knowledge combine to train Idaho’s future healthcare workers — psychologists, gerontologists, nurses, anatomists and future physicians.
¹û¶³´«Ã½Â鶹Éç established the School of Health and Medical Professions (SHAMP) to provide Idaho with the doctors and nurses needed to shorten wait times, improve the quality of clinics and support generalists and specialists throughout the state.
In addition to SHAMP, Vandal medicine includes the Idaho Office of Underserved and Rural Medical Research, Project ECHO Idaho and North Idaho Area Health Education Center (NI-AHEC). These programs offer educational opportunities for research, outreach to rural and underserved communities and continuing education to future and current health care workers and K-12 educators. These coexist with the Vandal medical education graduate programs and bring a holistic approach to expanding healthcare education for Idaho.
The Mission Is Clear
To improve the health of the people of Idaho by developing a robust academic health care delivery system that will educate and set forth a skilled workforce of healthcare professionals to attack this critical healthcare shortage.
Goals
- Create an educational pathway in Idaho to train its citizens in healthcare professions. Vandal medicine will expand and strengthen the healthcare services in Idaho.
- Expand health care education at ¹û¶³´«Ã½Â鶹Éç to address the critical workforce shortage.
- Bring more quality physicians to Idaho’s rural areas, places which often face the brunt of workforce shortages.
- Develop continuing education and professional development programs to train and retain existing healthcare professionals, ensuring that even the most remote areas receive adequate medical and mental health services.
- Meet the medical workforce needs of the future which shows a continual population growth in Idaho and the nation.
