Alternative Transportation

What is alternative transportation?

It鈥檚 any mobility option other than a personally owned, single-occupancy car or truck. Walking, bicycles, scooters, motorcycles, public transit, car share, ride share, carpools and vanpools are all examples of alternative transportation.

Why is it important for U of I?

While our campus is surrounded by hundreds of square miles of wide, open spaces, our one-square-mile campus and the adjacent one-square-mile downtown area of Moscow are pockets of urban living with lots of buildings and people living, working and learning in close proximity. As U of I enrollment expands and the area鈥檚 population density increases, it鈥檚 imperative we follow successful models of other urban communities by increasing alternative transportation options, scope and use. Utilizing alternative transportation saves money, time and stress while improving the overall health of our community.
