The Business of Natural Resources

The NREM degree prepares you for a career in natural resource management by giving you a solid foundation in natural sciences and a deep understanding of entrepreneurship and business principles. Throughout your time in this program, you’ll learn to strike a balance between development and stewardship to benefit both people and resources. Whether you want to start your own business or work in the private, public or nonprofit sector, the world needs professionals who know the business of natural resources.

NREM students choose between two distinct emphasis areas — Development and Stewardship.

The Natural Resource Stewardship emphasis focuses on the public and private management of natural resources. Students prepare to manage and administer conservation and preservation efforts at a public agency, private business or nonprofit organization.

The Natural Resources Development emphasis prepares students for running their own natural resource-based and outdoor recreation businesses. Coursework centered on entrepreneurship allows students to formulate and build their ideas in a team-setting while understanding policies for recreation and conservation.
