The College of Engineering at U of I has offered me so many amazing networks that have helped me grow. I am surrounded by other strong women & some of my closest friends through the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) chapter here. The friends I've made through my classes have become some of the strongest links in my support system.
One of my favorite college experiences has been my involvement in the College of Engineering Allen Ambassador Program. This has allowed me to connect with current and future U of I engineering students, as well as share my passion for engineering with K-12 students throughout the state. I love going into classrooms and inspiring future engineers. I know I would have loved seeing something like that when I was younger.

The ¹û¶³´«Ã½Â鶹Éç College of Engineering has provided me with countless opportunities to better myself during my time here. Through clubs like the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), I’ve been able to build my networking skills to use in my professional life while also building a sisterhood of other young women who are pursuing similar paths.
Many of the people I’ve met through SWE are now my close friends! Additionally, the university’s career fairs and networking events have allowed me to connect with industry professionals. These resources have directly helped me gain real-world engineering experience through two summer internships.
My favorite experiences at UI are any of the times I’ve spent being involved on campus in SWE. I’ve been a member of the leadership team for three years now and have attended two national conferences in Houston and Los Angeles. Our amazing club has helped keep me motivated and find a sense of community while I’m studying in a rigorous program.

I got to know American football through my job at , which was new to me from Nepal. Watching the Vandals play and seeing fans' commitment was inspiring, showing strong community ties. This experience brought me closer to campus life and traditions.
I have been one of the coordinators for Taste of Nepal, sharing Nepali food and culture with 500 people twice. Every year the event is well-received by the Moscow and Vandal community and helped earn us the university's best organization award last year. It showed how welcoming and inclusive this town and U of I is. Plus, I made some friends who have become like family to me, a family away from home.
Our college and industry partners recognize the value of SWE and the impact this organization has on our students. This is apparent through the support the dean’s office, college departments, and industry partners give to fund U of I SWE member attendance at the world’s largest conference for women in engineering and technology, the SWE National Conference.
Belonging & Engagement
Our college offers 20+ clubs and organizations tied to international and national engineering organizations, including national competition teams.
I've been involved in the Clean Snowmobile Challenge Competition Team here for all four years of my time at the college. They have helped me apply the subjects we learn in class to a physical chassis, get internships and jobs after college, and helped me articulate leadership skills I know will be applicable to the real world.
My freshman year, U of I gave me an internship where I would recycle vehicles from past engineering projects where I networked with everyone from social media to facilities which opened up opportunities to find value in myself as well as my career. Through this internship, I met a bunch of amazing alumni from the Clean Snowmobile team that are in industry.

The ¹û¶³´«Ã½Â鶹Éç College of Engineering has supported my educational journey by providing scholarship opportunities and making pursuing my degree from Coeur d'Alene possible. The financial support I have received from university scholarships has allowed me to pursue my career debt-free. I have also been able to stay in my hometown of Coeur d'Alene, pursing my degree with in-person classes alongside a unique community of students. As an added bonus, I get to work on homework by the lake!
My most unique experience at U of I has been my involvement in undergraduate research. Thanks to the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR), I have been granted the opportunity to contribute to several undergraduate research projects through the college’s Center for Intelligent Industrial Robotics (CI2R). These projects allow me to work alongside brilliant and capable graduate students and faculty members, expanding my knowledge beyond what I learn in the classroom and opening my eyes to the diverse career options this degree provides. I have even been granted the privilege to travel to present these projects at several research conferences and have five conference trips planned for this year alone! Many of these presentations will result in research publications which will build my resume as I explore post-graduate education and employment opportunities.
