Barry Willis was associate dean for Outreach for the ¹û¶³´«Ã½Â鶹Éç’s College of Engineering and professor with teaching responsibilities in the Engineering Management and Technology Management programs. His areas of teaching expertise included distance education, leadership and organizational behavior. He has been with the ¹û¶³´«Ã½Â鶹Éç since 1993. His doctorate is from Indiana University (1981).
Previously, Willis served the ¹û¶³´«Ã½Â鶹Éç as associate provost (2001-2002) and associate vice president for Educational Outreach (2002-2011). Before coming to the ¹û¶³´«Ã½Â鶹Éç, he served as the University of Alaska’s statewide director of distance education, associate vice chancellor for Distance Education/Academic Planning and director of instructional development. He has taught for Boston University, the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, Utah State University and the ¹û¶³´«Ã½Â鶹Éç.
Willis has authored two textbooks, “Distance Education: Strategies and Tools” and “Distance Education: A Practical Guide.” In addition, he served as contributing editor of the Journal of Educational Technology and served on the editorial board of The American Journal of Distance Education. He was on the Science Advisory Board of the United States Antarctic Program from 2000-2010.
Willis has many hobbies, including building acoustic guitars and furniture.
